Iā€™m the only one who is having problem with iPhone X speaker ? In particular I hear a cracke with the upper speaker when I reproduce some songs on Apple music or the ringtones such as ā€™Apexā€™ and ā€˜bell towerā€™ around the 80% and full volume ? Thanks for the help.

I, too, am having this same problem! When making or receiving calls on the speakerphone of my iPhone X, the audio quality is absolutely horrible! There is static, crackling and distortion ā€” it sounds like the speaker is peaking. Plus, the overall volume is much softer than it was on the iPhone 7. I took my iPhone X back to the Apple store in Walnut Creek, California and they gave me a replacement, but the same problem occurred on the replacement. For what itā€™s worth, when the Apple Store did a full audio diagnostic test on my original iPhone X and the replacement iPhone X, the results for both phones came back as if there was nothing wrong with the phones. So, the audio diagnostic tests do not properly pick up on the horrible distorted speakerphone sound. Hopefully, Apple will realize that this is an issue and get it fixed, whether it is fixable through software or the phones have to be replaced. After all, beneath all of the glitz, these devices are telephones, and we should be able to hear the people we are calling with with some degree of clarity ā€” especially from an $1100 phone.

Greetings, drew893.

I see that the speaker of your new iPhone X is producing a crackling noise when you have the volume turned up between 80 and 100 percent. I'm happy to help.

If you hear no sound or distorted sound from your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch speaker -- Follow the steps provided in this support article.

Let me know how that goes.

Take care!

When using the speaker for calls or listening to piano music the issue is evident, but in most other cases the speaker quality is quite good. Maybe not enough people are complaining because they didnā€™t notice it yet or maybe they using it at lower volume. If no one complains then Apple doesnā€™t consider it an issue or hopefully they are testing a software fix...unless itā€™s a hardware issue.

Same here, went to apple store, the "Genius" ran the diagnostics & came back normal. She heard it was crackling, said its normal. Spoke with a manager, got the phone replaced, same issue with the replacement device. Seems like it needs better calibration which is possible through software update. just gonna sit on it for now.

Sorry, but iOS 11.1.2 doesn't address the buzzy speaker issue at all. All that 11.1.2 did was fix the cold weather issue and a Live photo issue.

I have a feeling that the person at the Genius Bar just told you that to get rid of you. I have actually been dealing with the top level of engineering at Apple regarding the crackling speakerphone issue, and they are sending me a brand new phone, and wanting my phone back so they can analyze exactly whatā€™s going on with it, hardware-wise. So, I seriously doubt that it is a software issue.

Yeah the ā€œGeniusā€ pretty much brushed me off. He ran his tests, went to the back to see if their was any internal information about the issue(their wasnā€™t) and told me Apple would fix it in the next major update(11.2). How does he KNOW that when Apple hasnā€™t even publicly or seemingly privately acknowledged the issue. I guess some of the ā€œGeniusesā€ think weā€™re idiots.

Called Apple support today. They run a test call "diagnostic" and said " your phone working perfectly". Even though i provided him with a terrible static/ feedback/ crackling sounds that I record that from another phone.

He suggest that i should bring my phone back to people in "Genius Bar" in Apple Store so they can take a look at it "again".

Another iPhone X with same issue here. Rang Apple. Ran diagnostics. Nothing wrong. He said sounds like phone will need to be replaced.

So angry that now Iā€™ll be without a phone until a warranty replacement is available.

It sounds like physical interference from components inside the phone. Like something is either vibrating on something, or two seperate components are hitting each other.

I wish they could fix it without lowering the maximum volume of the phone. But fact is, itā€™s probably not possible. At this rate Apple wonā€™t even acknowledge this as a problem.

Same issue šŸ˜ šŸ˜ šŸ˜ šŸ˜ šŸ˜ . I picked up my iPhone X 256GB Space Grey from Rogers in Canada and noticed it immediately. This better be addressed or this will be the last apple device I buy. I rather have the earpiece completely disabled but you can't do that in ios, it only lets you move the slider to L or R speaker which doesn't help when you change from vertical to horizontal.

I'm hoping this is a software issue and not a widespread hardware defect that wont get rectified, or give me the **** option to disable this disgrace of an earpiece speaker.

If you believe it is a hardware issue, please take your phone into your local Apple Store or servicer for diagnosis and/or replacement.

If you get any push back from the staff, compare your phone's behavior with that of a demo phone on the sales floor.

I'm sorry an earlier poster is having issues, but it is true that Apple products can in most cases only be serviced in the countries in which they were purchased for use.

The problem with anyone in an Apple store trying to hear the issue is that Apple stores are almost always filled with many decibels of background chatter, music, etc, making the crackling iPhone X issue impossible to notice. The other problem is that the electronic diagnostic tests that the Apple Stores run on the crackling iPhone X's all come up with satisfactory results. In any case, my local store traded my original cracklng iPhone X for a new one, and when I took it home and got it all set up, the same problem occurred. Actually, it was worse than my original X, so I took it back and got my original phone back. I then called Apple and reached someone who contacted Apple engineering. They, too, sent me a new phone...but it was worse than my original phone too.

My guess is that the issue actually happens to ALL iPhone X models. It's just that some people never use the speakerphone and/or just don't have good enough hearing to hear the crackling.

Anyway......I'm of course still hoping for a solution. And it will probably be hardware-related, which will be a HUGE thing for Apple to admit to and put into place.

Hey everyone Iā€™m thinking what if itā€™s a carrier update and not an iOS update that will fix this issue. Iā€™ve been noticing that I donā€™t always hear the distortion sound when Iā€™m on a call. Today(12/7/17) I received a carrier update(Iā€™m on Verizon). Maybe this will address the issue. To see if you have a carrier update go to Settings>General>About to see if a carrier Update appears. It should update to version 31.1.
