iPhone X speaker issue

Same here, went to apple store, the "Genius" ran the diagnostics & came back normal. She heard it was crackling, said its normal. Spoke with a manager, got the phone replaced, same issue with the replacement device. Seems like it needs better calibration which is possible through software update. just gonna sit on it for now.

Another iPhone X with same issue here. Rang Apple. Ran diagnostics. Nothing wrong. He said sounds like phone will need to be replaced.

So angry that now I’ll be without a phone until a warranty replacement is available.

It sounds like physical interference from components inside the phone. Like something is either vibrating on something, or two seperate components are hitting each other.

I wish they could fix it without lowering the maximum volume of the phone. But fact is, it’s probably not possible. At this rate Apple won’t even acknowledge this as a problem.

Hey everyone I’m thinking what if it’s a carrier update and not an iOS update that will fix this issue. I’ve been noticing that I don’t always hear the distortion sound when I’m on a call. Today(12/7/17) I received a carrier update(I’m on Verizon). Maybe this will address the issue. To see if you have a carrier update go to Settings>General>About to see if a carrier Update appears. It should update to version 31.1.

The crackling/distortion issue happens in all the speakers of the iPhone X, no matter whether it's a speakerphone call or listening to music, etc. As I've said before, Apple has replaced my iPhone X three times and the problem is exactly the same on all of them.

Went to Apple store today (11/18). They said version 11.1.2 should take care this issue.

iOS 11.2 didn't fix the issue. This is a hardware problem. The speaker is half the size of the one found on 8 Plus and it has the same volume...

Please provide evidence and if you get your iPhone X checked using diagnostics at Apple !

Also contact Apple Support and get a Senior Apple Advisor to handle your case.

The problem with anyone in an Apple store trying to hear the issue is that Apple stores are almost always filled with many decibels of background chatter, music, etc, making the crackling iPhone X issue impossible to notice. The other problem is that the electronic diagnostic tests that the Apple Stores run on the crackling iPhone X's all come up with satisfactory results. In any case, my local store traded my original cracklng iPhone X for a new one, and when I took it home and got it all set up, the same problem occurred. Actually, it was worse than my original X, so I took it back and got my original phone back. I then called Apple and reached someone who contacted Apple engineering. They, too, sent me a new phone...but it was worse than my original phone too.

My guess is that the issue actually happens to ALL iPhone X models. It's just that some people never use the speakerphone and/or just don't have good enough hearing to hear the crackling.

Anyway......I'm of course still hoping for a solution. And it will probably be hardware-related, which will be a HUGE thing for Apple to admit to and put into place.

Good thought....but......since the distortion/crackling speaker issue happens with the Skype app, the WhatsApp app and even when listening to music through any of the music apps, it's definitely not a carrier issue. I am now on my 3rd iPhone X, and the problem persists.

I have the same issue. I swap my phone several times but all the phones are affected with same issue. I am thinking it might get fixed with a software update. I swapped my phone 4 times but each and every phone has this issue. So I though to wait for sometime and see weather a software update can fix it. Currently the phone I am using has the issue.

Update : I spoke to Apple Support Contacted a Advisor and they told me that the Engineering Team is Actively working to fix this issue and to check for updates !

My iPhone is/was buzzing, crackling, doing the same thing, now however it has gotten worse, slowly got worse and worse and degraded, then yesterday finally it stopped working all together, the bottom speaker is great no problem there, the top speaker , can't hear anyone on calls, no music ( i'm currently in Brazil so no apple store here, so I have to wait until i'm back in the UK) so I decided to turn my phone off, big mistake, my phone then got stuck on the apple logo screen, even after a hard reset, so after putting it in recovery mode, I got it back up and running, I contacted apple via chat, they basically did the same thing I did already, and told me to try not let my battery die or turn off the phone, so that was great help! what type of advice is that! Also, when I told them about the speaker issue they said that they hadn't heard about it, and if it was more then my phone there would be "chatter" about it online, so I directed the representative to this thread on their own forum, and various google links, to which he said he knew nothing about it,..... so I decided to try beta 11.2.5, that didn't help, so I downgraded back to 11.2.1 and then wiped my phone set up as new and restored it, somehow on the 5th time, it helped, my phone turned back on without getting stuck on the apple logo, then suddenly the top speaker worked again for one call, then VERY quiet, I can hear the person on the other end if theres no other noise, but no good in public or anything like that, and as for music, well lets just say its good I have the bottom speaker still... I can make calls using speaker phone and the top speaker is so non existent that I don't notice the crackle,I do think its software related, but of course I won't know until the next update, or when i'm back home in the UK and can at least try to get it replaced so I can make calls, I just thought id share whats happening with my iPhone,

I have had this happen to me and they apologized ! It must be a human error !

So from all your comments you are saying that a replacement iPhone X from UPS is on the way ?
