iPhone 8+ makes bad noise when home button is touched

Hello! I had this same problem. Took it to the Genius Bar and they said this can be caused by two things: the Haptic engine screws need tightened (free of charge) or the screws need replaced ($59 out of warranty). When they took my phone back to work on it, turns out the screws were broken. They replaced my phone for free! I asked how the screws could break, which they said they don’t really know. Seems like may be a manufacture problem if they replaced my phone for free even out of warranty.

I found out the problem. The Taptic Engine is loose. You must open the phone to get to the Taptic Engine ( the thing that is used to make it vibrate) there are screws holding it. Both my screws where loose. I tightened it up and now works like new.

It's the taptic engine, a screw must've come loose and its making the taptic engine vibrate. I just had an 8 Plus the same and it was just the screw for the taptic engine that needed tightening.

If you have the iPhone 8 if your home button makes noise it’s because when u have ur phone on silent or vibrate the screws in ur phone for where the home button is they loosen so once they get to a point when there loose it makes a metal to metal noise only way to fix it is taking it in to get it done

Confirmed that calling, and likely recieving a call, fixes the problem in some instances. My noise immediately went away. Must be a minor glitch.

Hold home button and power button in until apple logo appears and let the phone restart. That fixed mine. Or just switch phone off and on

Go to settings>general>Home Button and tell me what the number you have set is.

My IPhone 8 just started making the same static like noise today. I rebooted it and the noise went away. For how long? I'm not feeling comfortable with this as a "fix".

It sounds like something is shorting out and getting amplified through the speaker.

Mine just started doing it this morning, litrally left of bedside table overnight not on charge just aitting there woke up and the horrible noise from home button...... i can confirm up until falling asleep last night there was nothing wrong with the button at all, ive just switched it off and on again and the noise has gone everything is normal again. Weird

I use the ones that were loose in the phone. I just tightened it.

I had the same problem. I had tried turning my phone on and off many times, at the start the sound would work then it would just die off, and the home button was clicking funny and making a strong cackling sound (as if there was a short connection behind the button). I had my apple lightning cord break this morning with the end still in it, and thats when the problems started...

I turned my phone off for say 5 minutes then turned it back off, started a chat with Apple and kept testing it and now it is working....

Not complaining, however I would like to know what happened, as my home button was also funny and now it is working properly.

I had the same issue. I tried to get into our genius bar but they are closed for remodeling. I sent mine back to apple, via snailmail, a few days ago and they have already fixed it. They never said what it was so I hope there is work order sheet in the box. We never dropped it, and that phone is 3 months old for us.

From Day 1, my iPhone was housed in an Otterbox Defender case, was not dropped or subjected to water damage. Upon presentation to AppleStore, where I removed from case, they observed that my iPhone still had to original thin plastic film still on the backside of the iPhone.......they ran their diagnostics, saw a few app/iPhone crashes and didn’t even bother to take it apart to inspect for damage.....knowing up front I took very good care of the phone. So they just swapped out with a new one.

Have you dropped your phone before having the problem? My 8+ started to make the same noise the second day after I dropped my phone from waist-height. And I wonder if the drop caused the issue.

Actually I've pin pointed the issue to possibly using a non apple USB cable.

I never dropped my phone and since I've had my 3rd one I haven't used a cable other than an Apple and it's ran flawlessly.
