what printer/scanner should I buy

I went to my local Apple store to buy a printer/scanner. I was told that my desktop is an older model and that the store doesn't carry. I then went to Best Buy, and I was also told they didn't have a printer/scanner that would work with my desktop.

I am now looking at Amazon, to order.

I need recommendations, please.

Apple doesn't sell them, but Apple provides a list of AirPrint-compatible printers and multifunction devices here:

About AirPrint - Apple Support

The list isn't updated every day, so you may find a perfectly suitable printer/scanner that's not on it yet. If that's the case make absolutely, positively certain the device specifically indicates AirPrint compatibility. If it does not, then don't buy it.

Amazon is a good place to start evaluating options. Read the reviews and look specifically for reviews written by Mac users. They're usually among the more literate ones written.

Don't set foot inside a Best Buy, ever, for any reason. Ever.

Personally I have had good success with Brother's line of printers and multifunction devices. I have had the complete opposite experiences with HP.

And never, ever set foot inside a Best Buy. Never. Just don't.

Right. Brother has many similar models to choose from, with AirPrint. Any one of them will work with your Mac.

Look at models similar to the HL-L2300D on that same Amazon page. They will be one of the models ending in DW. HL-2340DW, HL-2380DW... etc. Those incorporate AirPrint.

I just noticed the HL-2340DW is the same price as the HL-L2300D.

Research Brother's website also.

I personally like to get a laser printer that supports Postscript, as even when the vendor stops providing drivers, you can generally use generic Postscript drivers to still print things (and since 99.44% of all my printing is just black, white, gray scale, a Postscript laser printer does the job for me; if I want color, I'll go to a drug store or Staples and have them print it).
