I have an Air mid 2012 with 512GB SSD running MacOS 10.13.1
I'm trying to repartition my drive to be able to use bootcamp. When I try to repartition the Storage system check returns with code 0 (all OK). When shrinking the actual APFS data structures it gives an error 49174. Has anyone encountered this before?

You should use Bootcamp Assistant to create your Bootcamp partition, not Disk Utility. You can't resize the APFS Container. You can add or delete additional volumes inside the Container.

Fixing something in Disk Utility usually means to run File Aid to fix the volume. Have you tried that?
I actually tried that. It comes back with 'Your disk could not be partitioned. Please run Disk Utility to fix the error'. I figured if I create a FAT formatted partition, I should be able to move forward. When I try this it comes with the error 49174.
This did the trick, thank you! It did it, albeit in a roundabout way. When the time machine snapshots were shrunk it freed up a lot of diskspace. Bootcamp assistent was not able to partition the drive afterwards. With disk utility it worked although despite me telling it I wanted a 40Gb partition, it made a new partition of all free space (165Gb) leaving no empty space on my MacOS partition. I ended up deleting this new partition and then the bootcamp assistent worked. Windows setup is now running!

I wonder after doing the thinning of the Time Machine snapshots if restarting would have worked without you having to use Disk Utility to create/delete a new partition for Bootcamp Assistant to have worked.
