iPhone X - screen won't turn off

Hi all

I have an iPhone currently running iOS11.1 (the most recent update?).

Every time I receive any notification (i.e. a text, whatsapp message, any message from an app etc) while my phone is locked, my iPhone alerts me with the screen turning on and then it stays on indefinitely unless I press the power button to turn it off.

I have enabled autolock to kick in after 30 seconds and turned off rise to wake, however the problem still persists. This means that my iPhone battery drains with the screen not automatically turning off if I don't acknowledge receiving the notification and manually pressing the power button.

Is there any solution / fix or are we meant to wait for the next software update?

Thanks

Hamish

Hey Guys, I probably should have posted this a week ago but I wanted to make sure this worked. I had Apple replace the phone and the issue of screen not turning off persisted so I knew it was hardware related becasue what are the chances of that defect occurring in 2 iPhone X's. Anyway I kept digging around and finally found the fix, I want to remind you that my iPhone X exhibited this issue contentiously, in fact the average battery usage was around 50% just for "Home Lock screen" So what I did to fix this issue was go to settings > Face ID & Passcode > Turn Off Passcode. I then rebooted the phone and turn passcode back on, now keep in mind it may disable some other things like Apple Pay etc but was able set that up again quickly.

I can confirm its been running perfectly 100% for at least 10 days. I would be interested to see if this works for others and if it does please mark this response as helpful. Good Luck 😉

I have the same issue. I have to hard reset my iphone everyday, and it will "fix" the problem for a short period, but problem will come back a day (max) later. I have just tried the "turn off the passcode" trick, will see how it goes.

Apple, PLEASE find a permanent fix to this problem. I have brought my iPhone X to the Apple Store, and they told me it was my screen protector that's causing the problem (which I highly doubt).

Exactly! My issue, just as described above. I woke up, night after night with my iPhone X under plane mode, with my battery down by at least 10%, whereas my previous iPhone 7 Plus just used 1-2% of its battery charge throughout a night. An Apple advisor suggested trying to switch off True Tone, etc. just in case... to no use. Hopefully, before a multi-night ordeal trying all the potential battery suckers, I came across (thanks to my wife's suggestion) this trend and tried iDemon's simple but totally unsuspected solution, which proved instantly successful, and hopefully permanent. I was on the verge of returning my almost-one-week-old iPhone X in despair, doubly disappointed after its claiming 2 extra hours' battery yield than its predecessors. Thanks, iDemon!
