Bootcamp Installation - "Unexpected Error" issue

Hi, I was installing Windows 10 64 bit on my 2017 Imac (11.0.3 operating system) by following the bootcamp assistant. While the computer was installing Windows 10, I received a "The computer restarted unexpectedly or encountered an unexpected error. Windows installation cannot proceed. To install Windows, click "OK" to restart the computer."

I tried restarting multiple times, but to no avail. I even tried getting into the registry editor without any luck. If anyone has any guidance it would be greatly appreciated. Also, if this doens't work how do I get back to the apple side of the partition? Thanks

I also had this issue, windows 10 64-bit on mac mini (2012+, purchased 12/2017) using bootcamp- install resulting in same error msg and blue screen of death w/ no way to revert back to Mac OS. I spoke w/ both Microsoft and Apple support and neither owned the issue. After 3 days of research I "accidentally" fixed the issue by using an old windows laptop (running Windows 7). I copied the W7 recovery file onto the USB drive containing my W10 ISO, I plugged in a corded keyboard. The first boot w the W7 recovery files resulted in a message stating to hold on while windows files were being updated... but still resulting in blue screen, however this time it at least recognized the windows keyboard. I shut down, unplugged from power, waited and rebooted. When rebooting I used the command below and it worked--similar to rebooting with ALT...was able to see MAC HD and recover into Mac OS. Once back into Mac OS I blew away the bootcamp partition. If anyone has actually done the install without any trouble please post the steps, this seems to be an ongoing issue between Apple/Microsoft for W10...I have never experienced this issue before and have an office full of dual boot machines!!

Command-RStart up from the built-in macOS Recovery system. Or use Option-Command-R or Shift-Option-Command-R to start up from macOS Recovery over the Internet. macOS Recovery installs different versions of macOS, depending on the key combination you use while starting up.

Hi there, I'm having the same issue and it means I can't boot up my macbook or use it at all. How did you manage to fix it?

It restarts then immediately brings up the windows logo with an error message saying 'the computer restarted unexpectedly or encountered an unexpected error. Windows installation cannot proceed. To install Windows, click okay to restart computer and then restart installation' but when I click okay it brings up exactly the same error message.

Please help as I can't use my mac at all currently thanks to this.

Hi, okay this should be a very simple fix. Press ok, and restart again. When restarting, the screen should go to black but still be on, then completely turn off. As soon as the screen turns back on, you’re going to want to hold down the “option” key. Keep holding it down until the screen boots up to a black screen with pictures of hard drives. Select the one that should be labeled “Macintosh” and let it boot up like normal.
