Why do I get duplicate photos with different metadata One has the lens info the other does not. This has jammed up all my storage and I need to stop this from happening if someone could tell me how and why it happens. thanks

  1. Where are these photos coming from, i.e. what is taking them?
  2. Do these duplicates have the exact file name?
  3. If they are from an iPhone are you shooting HDR photos and keeping both the HDR version and the original version?

4. What system and Photos versions are you using?

5. How are you importing the photos into your Photos Library?

Are you inferring that the duplicates are created in the camera or during import to your Photos library? Is the lens info the only info that's missing?

Do you still have some of those photos in your camera? If so connect the memory card to the MBP vis the card slot or a card reader and upload some of the photos that are duplicated to a folder on the desktop. Open the photos with Preview or EXIF Viewer for Mac OS X and check to see if each of the photos have the GPS info. If they do then import into Photos and check again.

This will help determine where the GPS data is getting removed and/or where the duplicate is being created.
