I have an iPhone SE and suddenly am not able to sent my emails to trash. I am using Outlook.com

When I try to send unwanted email to trash I get a small pop-up window that says - unable to send this message to the trash I have not had this problem before at all and do not recall having made any changes that would have prompted this situation. Any ideas?

Hi bobwindom,

No worries. Thanks for trying that. What I want to have you do next is to:
  1. Remove this email account from your Settings,
  2. Restart your device
  3. Re-add your e-mail account
Any underlying configuration issues can be reset this way. Let us know the results.

Hey bobwindom,

Welcome to Apple Support Communities. I can see from your post that you're experiencing an issue when attempting to delete emails from your iPhone SE recently but you haven't made any changes that would cause this. Managing email directly from your device is important and errors like this are usually caused by when your device is unable to make contact with the email server. If you are using anything other than POP mail, then your email needs to contact its server to make these types of changes. That means your iPhone must have a stable internet and data connection to communicate back and forth.

What we'll want to do first is make sure your Outlook account is set to move those messages to the Trash folder. To do this, go to Settings > Mail > Accounts. Tap on your Outlook account and then select your account name at the top of the screen. Select Advanced Settings, and make sure it's set to move discarded messages to the "Deleted Mailbox". Once you have verified this, mark the offending messages as unread using these steps:
  1. Open the Mail app.
  2. Select your Outlook account.
  3. Locate the email messages that will not delete.
  4. Tap on Edit.
  5. Select each of the messages that will not delete.
  6. Tap on Mark.
  7. Select Mark as Unread.
You may see the offending messages disappear from the list as soon as they are marked as unread. If not, try deleting those messages again. If this doesn't resolve this, try to access your Outlook account on browser on a computer and delete the messages from your account there. Once complete, let us know if they still appear on your iPhone.

Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.

Take care!
