iPhone X- black borders around display area?

I was under the impression the iphone X used ALL of its screen but I am seeing black borders all around the phone's display on all edges. The viewable display area itself does not stretch from border to border of the physical screen.

Normal? (Please forgive out of focus pic but you can see the black borders take a decent amount out of the viewing area).

Thanks. It's sometimes hard to tell from the "official" pix but I see what you mean.

The only other display issue I have is that when the screen is white (like on Settings) and you tilt the screen to an angle, the white has a blue-ish tint to it. But from what I am reading, this might be normal with OLED displays. The distortion is only when you have a white screen up. All other colors seem fine from any angle.
