Time Machine Not Working Properly?!

Since upgrading to High Sierra I can no longer get Time Machine to do a back-up. Any suggestions but please keep them very simple as I am not tech savvy.

My system is: MacBook Pro (Retina 13 inch, Early 2015)

Processor 2.7 GHz Intel Core i5

Memory 8 GB 1867 MHz DDR3

Storage 95.71 GB available

If there is no easy solution to my problem, is there any easy way to uninstall High Sierra and reinstall Sierra?

Try this: Open the TM preferences and click on the button to turn off automatic backups. Then double-click on the TM drive and then open the Backups folder. Inside you should see a file called "in progress" Delete it. Now return to the TM preferences and turn on automatic backups. That usually starts things up again.

My TM drive is actually a usb3 flash drive used for back-up only. So when it is slotted into the usb port there is an icon shown on my desktop. I double-clicked on that icon and it brought up a menu of what is stored on the flash drive. I then had to click "My MacBook Pro Back up" heading on that and a list of all the content stored appeared in date order. I just scrolled down to the bottom of this list to find the "in progress" one and deleted it.

However, I must say that to start backing up again took hours and hours.

Thanks AEDAW! I did find "in progress" finally but am scared to touch it. Since this all started with the install of High Sierra, having to do a soft boot also, I made sure I was in normal mode, properly ejecting TM, and shutting down. After turning it back on it did find TM on its own and listed under my devices. The pop-up, about not ejecting properly, is still showing after screen sleeps. I am due for an updated TM. thanks again for your assistance
