Basically, I updated to the new High Sierra OS X and Final Cut required an update to function with the new OS. Unfortunately, the app store no longer recognizes that I have purchased the program already and instead is asking that I pay YET ANOTHER $300. Obviously, this is not something that I want to do. Any ideas on how to fix this?

You have to log in with the same Apple ID used to buy it.
If you login and still don't see it in Updates, look into Purchased: is it there?
If so, drag the old version to the trash (don't empty it just yet). Go to Purchased and click on Download.
