why is it so hard to add apple gift card to wallet

This works for me. From Wallet choose scan code. Camera will pop open. Zoom in on QR code if necessary. A message will pop up that will take you to the website to add the gift card (can’t remember exact wording of pop up message/link). Choose Add to put the card in your wallet.

I had the same problem. Somehow I was able to load one gift card straight to wallet, but then could not add the others. There was nothing to select to do it. Add a new card wouldn't do it. I used a simple QR reader app, and it popped me into the Apple Store Gift Card and asks if you want to add to wallet. I just did this successfully three more times and now have all four in my wallet and available. I hope that helps someone. This should definitely be a lot easier.

I finally got this to work by zooming in on the QR code when it was in focus, not by taking a picture. Thanks for the complete lack of direction here, Apple!

Once the QR code is in focus, a notification pops up at the top of the screen saying Open "apple.com" in Safari. Press and hold this notification until safari opens and you can add the gift card from there.

See below. Use a QR reading app and the reader opens up the Add Card window. Nowhere except buried in this thread is that idea.

Can I enter an apple gift card (physical one) into passbook?

It is easy

1. Peel off the seal on the back of the Apple Store Gift Card to reveal a QR code alongside a letter code, similar to what you would see on an iTunes Gift card.
2. Open the Wallet app and tap edit passes.
3. Choose to Scan Code to add the pass
4. Scan the QR code you revealed on the gift card

I have added numerous Apple (NOT iTunes) gift cards to my wallet app over the past couple of years. It always WAS easy. I just tried doing it with my iPhone X and the latest OS and couldn’t do it at all. Obviously not because I didn’t know how, as I’ve put like 12 of them in my wallet app before.

I did some googling and read somewhere that Apple disabled the add to wallet feature for Apple gift cards. I have no idea whatsoever why they would do this. After having the last batch in my wallet, it would be very inconvenient to have to start carrying the physical cards. I wish someone from Apple would officially address this instead of just having us laypeople flailing around trying to figure it out.

I am also having the same problem. I am unable to add my Apple gift cards to the Wallet App. I have done this before, but as of the latest iOS update, I do not see a way to do it. I went into an Apple Store and they were not able to figure it out either.

I agree. I have gone through the process before, but now it is not available. what is the deal here?!?

That would be helpful if my gift card had a QR code. I am having the exact same issue. There is no way to add the gift card if no QR code is present, I guess.

I have a scratch off area on the back of my gift card which has a box and an alphanumeric code inside. I also have a bar code with a gift card number under it. None of these work.

This finally worked after numerous tries. Many!
