Factory Reset

I have an old phone I am trying to give to a friend, I am still currently logged into that phone with my apple id, but my current apple id password does not work on that phone. I am trying to do a factory reset so they are able to use it with their information. How can I do this?

I believe you are describing the Activation Lock feature. If you cannot remember (an old) password used with that iPhone, then the only other way I know of is to show a proof-of-purchase for the iPhone (assuming you are the original owner) to Apple. With the valid credentials, they can erase the iPhone for you. I suggest that the quickest way (if you can) is to take the proof-of-purchase together with an ID to the nearest Apple Store:
