rolling back High Sierra to Sierra on a Macbook Pro that came with High Sierra

I have a Macbook Pro, it came with High Sierra. When I boot into recovery the restore function is grayed out. I would like to use the restore function to install Sierra. Is this even possible? I tried creating an install media disk and installing from that but I get a circle slash, this is forbidden icon when i boot the external USB install Sierra media.

I would like to be able to use the restore function in recovery mode but it seems Apple thinks we don't need to use that function.

Anyone have any luck with this?

MacBook Pro TouchBar and Touch ID, macOS High Sierra (10.13.1), null

You cannot install a version of the OS that is earlier than what came with your machine.
