Am I safe?

I was searching on a game wikia on safari and as the page was loading it redirected me to one of those Walmart/amazon gift card scams where it gave me a notification of “selecting the right one” or something like that. I didn’t close the notification and instead closed the tab. Afterwards I went into the settings and cleared my search and website history. All I’m asking is what I did was the right choice and if I’m safe from any viruses. Additionally my Facebook app was running in the background.
