BC Assistant should reduce the APFS container and create a FAT32 partition. You should not manipulate the APFS container using Disk Utility to create a BC/Windows partition.
bootcamp assistant automatically selects the apfs container instead of the macintoshhd disk, which gives me the error message unable to partition, is there a way to select the macintoshhd?
You do not need to select 'Macintosh HD', unless you have a non-standard disk layout. Can you post the output of
diskutil list
diskutil apfs list
from macOS Terminal?
This is normal. BCA is doing the correct procedure for this disk layout. Please continue and report any errors.
I got the error, couldn't partition. I tried resetting the pram and the single user code thing.
I will try it again.
In Terminal, please run
sudo tmutil thinlocalsnapshots / 9999999999999999
and try BCA again.
Nope, it failed to partition disk still.
Do you have a Time Machine backup?
no
what do you suggest i do?
Can you create a backup to an external disk now?
will backup as soon as i wake up, its like late at night where i am rn
