Mac Mini display problems after upgrade to OS 10.13.1

I'm using a 2014 Mac Mini (2.6 GHz Intel Core i5 processor, 8 GB 1600 MHz DDR3 memory) with an HP w2207h display. Until recently, I was running OS 10.12 (Sierra) but this week I was prompted to upgrade to 10.3.1 (High Sierra).

Since the OS upgrade, any time the display goes to sleep and I wake it up, the dock is below the visual area and the menu bar at the top completely disappears. I go to Displays in System Preferences and select the Scaled 1680 x 1050 option, and the screen returns to the correct proportions, allowing me to see (and use) the menu bar and dock. But the next time it goes to sleep, it returns to its unusable format.

For several years, I was using a 2011 Mini but last fall, when that one failed, I replaced with a late 2014 Mini. Until this week, I've never had a problem with this display.

As information, the connection from computer to display is from the HDMI port through an Apple DGI adapter to a cord with a DGI-to-HDMI adapter, which in turn connects to the HDMI input on this display. This is the connection I've used for as long as I've had this display.

Any suggestions will be appreciated.

This is a bug in OS X High Sierra which is affecting many users. In addition to clicking on the underscan setting in your display settings (no need to change it, just click it) you can turn off and on again your display screen, or unplug and reconnect the HDMI cable. No sign yet of a fix from Apple.

I had a half-hour phone conversation with an Apple support person, which proved unproductive. She tried "mirroring" my screen, so that she could at least see the problem on her screen, but when she did this, her image of my screen looked normal while mine was still hiding the dock and the menu bar.

She had no suggestions as to how to solve this problem.
