What laptop should I buy for learning X-Code and Swift

Hello all, a newcomer here with I’m assuming a typical newcomers question!

I am relatively new to coding, just getting into learning X-Code/Swift and hope to start to develop some simple apps within a year or 2. I have been doing some research on the best Mac to buy to meet these needs; but seem to get different answers everywhere. I’m hoping that can be put to rest here. Below are the two that I am debating between, and would love to hear everyone’s opinions.

*Note: I was hoping to spend under $2000.

** This laptop would just be used mainly for learning to use X-Code and Swift. I can’t see myself getting too into video/photo editing or anything like that especially if I am still just learning. By the time I need to actually edit graphics and stuff for my apps I’d hope to upgrade. I wouldn’t keep photos or videos on the laptop, as I have a PC for that; which is why I believe 256GB would be fine.

1) Macbook Air (13-Inch) (I am leaning towards this at the time of posting this thread)

Would purchase an extra screen to eliminate the “screen estate” issue

Specs:

  • 2.2GHz dual-core Intel Core i7 processor
  • 8GB 1600MHz LPDDR3 memory
  • 256GB SSD storage
  • Intel HD Graphics 6000

Total price ~$1,850CAD from the Apple Store

2) Macbook (12-Inch)

Would purchase an extra screen to eliminate the “screen estate” issue

Specs:

  • 1.2GHz dual-core 7th-generation Intel Core m3 processor
  • 8GB 1866MHz LPDDR3 memory
  • 256GB SSD storage
  • Intel HD Graphics 615

Total price ~$1,953.77CAD from the Apple Store

Any help is greatly appreciated! What other specs should I keep an eye out for?

Thanks!
