Why have a preorder option that doesn’t work?

This was my first Apple preorder of any type. I purchased the iPhone 3s, 4s, 5, 5c, 6+, & 6s+ all directly through either an AT&T or Apple retail store months after their release with no wait. I was excited for the announcement of the IPhone X and was up at 3:01 Eastern Standard time ready on two computers ready to get my phone. It wasn’t until 3:09am did the Apple site update so I could place the order. I was extremely excited to get a delivery date of November 3rd but after I received my confirmation email @3:13am I noticed that the delivery date had changed to November 17-24. Now this wouldn’t be that a big of a deal except when my brother, who didn’t preorder, can walk-in to his cellular store on November 3rd and walk out with a brand new iPhone X. Now I sit here weeks later watching my brother use his new phone while mine sits somewhere in Incheon Korea. Why have a preorder option if Apple doesn’t care about those customers who took the time to preorder. I could have slept and went into the store on November 3rd a had the phone faster. Why Apple? Why?

It was well publicized that there were different ways to get the new iPhone X on November 3.

One of them was to take your chance with a preorder...that you would get one before they sold out online. You took this chance and missed out on November 3rd delivery, others didn't miss out.

Another was to take your chance and walk in to an Apple store or cellular company on November 3rd. Your brother took this chance and got one, while others that took this chance did not get one.

Pretty simple.

If you're getting an iPhone X, and you ordered using the Pre-Order system, then it worked. It just didn't get you the phone the exact date you wanted it. Orders are fulfilled in the order in which they were received. Your brother took a chance, which you could have also taken and he was lucky. I have friends who have gone to the largest local Apple Store almost every day before the store opens and walk out empty handed every day. If you're looking for sympathy, you've likely come to the wrong place. No one's taken advantage of you and you are in fact getting a phone soon.
