Retrieving old text message
Hi
I would like to retrieve an old text message from late 2014. I have a different iphone now and i do know the telephone number of the sender.

I'm understanding from your post your enquiring about an old text message from 2014 and want to know if there is a way to retrieve it.
If the backup is shown in one of the locations listed in the article below then yes, you would be able to retrieve it.
Do keep in mind, however, that any data that you've added to your device since that backup will be removed. In order to preserve that data, make sure that you've got a current backup via iCloud if you locate an old backup in iTunes, or back up to iTunes if you locate a relevant backup in iCloud.
