iPad on iOS 11 keeps printing from rear tray

Hi, we have a number of iDevices in our house and for years have printed via AirPrint to our Canon MG6250 printer (connected on LAN) without issue.

A few weeks ago I upgraded my wife's iPAD Air to iOS11 and since then everything she prints from her iPAD tries to use the rear paper tray on the printer

How can I get it to use the normal paper tray again?

There doesn't appear to be any print settings in iOS, I have upgraded the printer to its latest available firmware but the problem persists.

Thanks

Hello tb_123,

Thanks for that info and choosing the Apple Support Communities. If I understand correctly, you are having an issue with printing from your iPad to your printer as you expect. To help resolve this issue, please test your issue from the Notes app and these steps from this resource on your situation:

If your printer is AirPrint-enabled

If your printer is AirPrint-enabled for printing from your Mac or iOS device, just make sure that it's connected to the same Wi-Fi network used by the Mac or iOS device.1

If you still can't print, try any of these solutions:

  • Restart your Wi-Fi router. Then restart your printer.
  • Move your printer closer to your Wi-Fi router.
  • Update your printer and Wi-Fi router with the latest firmware from the manufacturer.2
  • Update the software for your Mac or iOS device.

Cheers!

Hi i_rina - thanks for the reply.

The issue is not that i cannot access the printer, the issue is that since upgrading any of my devices to iOS11 all AirPrinting wants to use the rear paper tray of my Canon printer. Any devices still on eralier versions of iOS, or our MacBooks, Laptops, Windows machines can print to the normal large paper tray.

I tried printing from Notes as suggested, both on an iPad Air running the latest iOS11 and a brand new iPhone 7 running iOS 11. Neither can print using the normal paper tray. They just get an error to load paper. If I load paper into the rear tray, then it will print ok, however instead of printing a full A4 size page, it is shrunk to approx 1/9th the page size and is located at middle / top on the page.

This has only been happening on devices (iPad / iPhone) that have been upgraded to iOS11.

We have 1 x iPad and 3 x iPhone 7's and they all have the same issue.

The printer has the latest drivers installed from Canon.

This issue seems to have resolved itself after we printed a PDF from EACH device.

We went back and tried to print the same email and notes that previously had issues and they are now working fine.

Very strange, it seems as though the printer thought it was trying to print a photo or something perhaps, but printing a PDF from the device seems to have reset something somewhere.
