import failure Final Cut Pro X High Sierra

Since installing High Sierra, I have been unable to import video clips from my camcorders - both Panasonic into FCP. One camcorder is a HDC-HS700, and the other is a HC-X900.

They both make AVCHD files. I can see the files when I plug my camcorder in (via USB), or insert the SD card directly into the Macbook Pro, and I select the video clips I want to import. I can even preview the clips, but when I select the clips to import, it thinks about it for a while, showing 0% imported, and then finally, after a few seconds, it shows an import error message.

I have a Macbook Pro (Retina, Mid 2012), 2.6 Ghz Intel Core i7, 16GB RAM... I'm on macOS High Sierra 10.13.1

I can still import iframe video clips from the HC-X900, but the other camcorder only records AVCHD files. I can import them as MTS files, and convert them to mp4 files, and then import them to FCP... but this is a very long way around what used to be an easy process.

Any wisdom from the community?

Do you have Perian installed? This old Quicktime plugin, which has been dropped several years ago, was present in several machines experiencing this kind of problem, so if you have it, try uninstalling.

However I can't find any quicktime plugin, nothing inside library. But I have quicktime installed on my mac.

Please help, I'm in a business critial state.

After doing the last update on apple store (security patch) the files are importing but with NO audio. Even there IS audio on the video file (checked the mst file on another player)

Hi Mike,

I have the same issue. The thing is that when i try to do this in a new account I made on the same computer it worked. But even the Apple helpdesk couldn't figure out what the problem could be. I've trashed all the preferences but to no avail. Anyway, maybe the workaround will do the trick for you.

Hello

I've got exactly the same issue too after updating to 10.3.2. I'm pretty stressed since I'm working on a real business. Importing never has been a problem. I dont' have perian installed on my mac.

Any help would be highly appreciated, thanks, Sven

This no audio symptom for AVCHD files has been associated with Perian and/or A52.

Your screenshot seems to be of the Library inside your home folder.

Look also at the Library at the top level.

You can reach it by pressing Command-Shift-G in the Finder and typing "/Library" (without the quotes)

Also, just to be sure, open System Preferences and make sure that Perian does not appear in the "Other" category (usually the last group at the bottom of the window). A lot of people had this installed for so long they had forgotten it.
