Every since the last two upgrades by Apple, the battery on my phone is rapidly discharging. I spent four hours in the apple store yesterday and that didn't solve the issue. I've had the phone on for only an hour and the battery is already depleted.
Did the "genius" say anything about the new iOS needing to do "housecleaning" of old code in the background?
This happens with every major upgrade & some updates - sometimes even resulting in the phone getting noticeably "hot"
Every time that I have recommended some "old advice" (c. iOS 9.?) to wait 24-48 hours and post back if the issue does not right itself, no one has come back to report either way - I must assume that it works, since no complaints
I have the same problem. It's been 10 days since I updated to ISO 11.1.2. The discharge is getting worse every day. So waiting for housecleaning hasn't worked. My battery life capacity is showing 100%. My battery only discharges to 12% before it dies.
I believe that we are not alone. Apple refuses to do anything to correct the problem. I've spent many hours online and in-store with no results. Nothing has changed. The iPhone is still discharging rapidly. I have to carry a charging cable and a plug around with me everywhere I go.

Write down times of events so you can report precise data - "alarmingly fast" is not data (though I get what you mean)
What did the Genius actually SAY? 4 hours is a long time just to have them throw their hands in the air.
What you need to do is develop a story from experimental procedures that can be replicated by the Genius... take the fully charged iPhone - OFF - to the Genius Bar and demonstrate what happens
