After I updated to the latest IOS which is 11.1.1 when playing music using any app including apple music player the phone goes into auto lock and I have to push the home button every time I need to skip a song. Before it just goes dim and one tap brings the screen back to life.

I have to disagree, I owned 3 generations of iPhones and the behavior was always the same as I described it, This is the first time I have experienced this which it seems like a feature that has been forced down our throat by apple, They are known to decide what's best for the customers despite the inconvenience or the horrible design.
That is expected behavior. If it was not locking previously, then something was wrong.
I'm shocked that among all iPhone users no one got annoyed by the loss of such nice feature.
