What are the step to making a green screen

I know FCP, and I know how to take my video of me playing the guitar and putting an image or video behind it. I also know how to get some free Youtube green screen videos that I can put in, [ Crow fly from the back to the front and out ], Motion 5 has something like this. I've tried to import into Motion a .mov, png, mp4, and jpg, all green screen chroma, [ I use the iMove green screen image in FCP ].

So what are the steps to making a green screen [ Image or animation ] in Motion 5, and exporting out to FCP so I can make my own.

MacBook Pro (Retina, 13-inch,Early 2015), iOS 10.3.3, 10.10.5

sorry, Logicman, but this sentence does compute zero to me 😝

But, your further description tells me, I hope, we do have a different understanding about the Compositing techniques in use in FCPX.

I'm the man with the zillion red arrows, apologizes for my illustrative narration:

for a start, I'm in Motion, made quick'n dirty a Leafs Generator.

When you set the Display options to 'Transparent' the checkerboard indicates, the bg is <cough> transparent, not black.

Back to FCPX:

so, when I put #1 that Generator on top of my clip, no greenscreen needed: the Motion generated Generator contains all alpha-Info needed. Leafes in front of me...

#2, Keyer switched-on, the pic under the clip gets keyed in

#3 switching on the top track, leafs before me, bg keyed in

#4 now, when I put the leaf-generator under clip, leafs are keyed (but I switched off Times SQ.

finally, all tracks On:

the green-screen is for keying ANY content BEHIND me.

leafs behind and in front of me.

so, to create content in use as background, no green needed.

And content created in Motion needs no green either, due to alpha...

savvy? 😉

sorry, a bit lost in translation…

What are you asking for?

For a chroma-key/green-screen in FCPX all you need is a solid, single colored background. So, if your source has one already, no Motion needed.

If your source has NO solid background-color, again, Motion is of little help - then, you have to 'mask' the subjects.

for stills, any painting.app (Pixelmator, Affinity Photo, even the build-in Preview.app) has a 'magic wand' selector to get rid of unwanted parts.

Preferable, you do NOT replace the background with a color but keep its transparency (save still as png)

Masking moving content is a painstaking process, 'rotoscoping' each frame, or use 'tracking' tools like TrackX.

If you create content in Motion, no 'green-screen' needed either - Generators/Template keep the transparency/alpha automatically, or, when you share/export the project as a single mov, set the export format to proRes4444

Does this answer your question, or did I miss completely your point? 😕

I know FCP and what FCP will do, don't need FCP stuff. I shoot video for my Music videos and I have been using some Youtube green screen effect videos but its to hard to find what I need.

1. In Motion I use FCP to export the iMove green screen as both a mov and jpg.

2. In motion there are some images like a leaf that I put into the green screen [the leaf is white]

3. I publish it to FCP

4. In FCP my video is in the time line and has a keyer on it, when i bring in the Motion part, tell it to go behind, it does not turn the background to black but makes everything more green.

How do I take a green screen background and place images from Motion and then export it to work with a key

Thank You for your Help!!
