Mac Mini
We want to buy the iPad mini 4 but not sure if it will still be able for updates in the next year or two. The size is perfect for us. Do you think we should take the chance or move into the iPad 2017.

Thanks for the clarification. This is the Mac mini computer forum. You might want to ask this question in the iPad Support Forum.
I can tell you my wife loves the iPad Pro 12.9" iPad. I have no experience with the iPad mini.
I guess inquiry a bit vague. Was wondering if it makes sense to purchase a new iPad mini 4 knowing it could not support future updates. Or just step up to the 2017 9.7 iPad..would appreciate your opinion

The iPad Mini 4 originally shipped with iOS 9, was eligible for an upgrade to iOS 10 and will run the latest iteration of iOS 11.
It should be noted the iOS cut off from 9 to 10 was due to iOS 10 being a 64 bit offering and excluding 32 bit devices. The iPad Mini 4 does have a 64 bit A8 CPU which is still being used by devices in the current available lineup from Apple.
All that aside only Apple can say what their future requirements will be and we can not speculate on what thigh might be on these forums.
Not sure what you're asking with regards to a Mac Mini desktop computer. It appears you want advice for an iPad?
Thank you Jimmy, makes sense
