Permissions not Changing on High Sierra

Having persistent problems with permission problems since upgrading to High Sierra.

Candidly, I'm not sure it upgraded completely, I recall it may have stalled toward the end, but it's been awhile and I've been a bit busy

Trying to work with with files in a DMG that I created.

The files are copy-able, but the DMG is too big to copy the whole thing to HD and just delete the former DMG.

I've run EtreCheck and will post below.

Thanks in advance.

Samsung SSD 850 EVO 500GB disk0: (500.11 GB) (Solid State - TRIM: No)

Those SSDs have a particularly poor reputation among Mac users. Replace it with one manufactured by a company known to support Macs.

Dr. Antivirus: 2.0.2 (installed 2017-10-19)

CleanMyDrive 2: 2.1.9 (installed 2017-10-20)

Dr. Cleaner: 3.3.1 (installed 2017-10-21)

All the usual suspects. Rule 1 of Macs is don't install junk. Never install any non-Apple "anti-virus" junk, anything with "cleaner" or "doctor" in its name, and that goes double for any "antivirus cleaner doctors".

macOS High Sierra 10.13 (17A405) - Time since boot: about 4 days

I've had the SSD for about 17-19 months and now is the only time I've had a permission issue (since upgrading to High Sierra).

I understand. The reason is likely to be related to macOS firmware upgrades that are not designed to install on non-Apple SSDs. Those firmware upgrades often coincide with macOS upgrades, and they did with HS.

Apple does not consider hard disks or other internal storage media user-replaceable items. Of course lots of people do that, but you're kind of on your own when you do. If you were to take your Mac to Apple and tell them to fix it, they would remove nonconforming components and install their own, including user-installed batteries or solid state drives. However, it's quite unlikely they would even agree to service a Mac with user installed modifications. They might suggest non-Apple repair options for you to consider.

You might pursue recourse through Samsung.

Any thought on whether any /all of that will address ability to manipulate my files within DMGs I created?

Unfortunately I have no idea. You have to fix hardware before addressing potential software causes.

It's not entirely clear to me whether the problems you describe are strictly related to Permissions though. Disk permissions can no longer be altered. Permissions within your home folder can be altered, and the only way to rectify that is described in the following: Resolve issues caused by changing the permissions of items in your home folder - Apple Support. Try that.

If this is redundant, forgive me - it's not showing despite my response.

I'll rectify the software/app issues you surfaced.
