ApplePay on Watch Always Charges to Default Credit Card

HI All,

I have a Series 3 Apple Watch operating under Watch OS 4.1 and an iPhone 8 that operates under iOS 11.1.1. I have 4 credit cards on my watch and phone. While I can select which credit card I want to use on my phone, I can not do so on my Watch.

When in the Watch, I select Wallet. From the Watch I select which credit card I want to use. However, instead of the credit card that I selected being used to make the charge, the charge is always made to the default credit card.

In an effort to resolved, I have unpaired the watch from the iPhone and restored both to factory settings. I then set up the iPhone as a new phone and do not restore with any of the back-ups. Having done this, I have re-paired the phone to the watch and then using the wallet application on the phone, add back the credit cards to the phone and to the watch. However, this has not changed the behavior of the watch always making changes to the default credit card.

Does anyone have more than one credit card associated with their phone and watch? Are you able to select a non-default card on your watch and get it to charge to that card?

Thank you in advance for your help.

Hi

I am certainly able to select and pay using a non-default card.

Check that you are following the instructions here when using your Apple Watch to make payments via Apple Pay:

Using Apple Pay in stores, within apps, and on the web - Apple Support

For using your Apple Watch in stores, they include:

  • Double-click the side button to open Wallet.
  • If you do not wish to use your default card, then swipe sideways to select a different card.
  • With the preferred card displayed on the screen, present your Apple Watch to the contactless terminal to make the payment.

If the issue persists, then I suggest that you contact Apple Support (remote diagnostics and/or mail-in service may be available, if required), make a Genius Bar reservation or visit an Apple Authorised Service Provider for assistance:
