How do I view thumbnails across the page?

In Keynote, there's a View called Light Table. This lets you display your pages across the screen so you can see what is in the file.

I have a reasonably long Pages document (about 100 pages) and on some pages there are chapter names in bold. I'd like to see all the pages as thumbnails across the page in rows so I can see where the chapter names are and roughly how many pages are in each.

Would anyone know how to do this?

You have not said what version of Pages you are using, but you can drag the thumbnails column wider to have larger legible thumbnails.

Pages ‘09 has much larger thumbnails than Pages 5 & 6 and also lets you see pages side by side. Pages ‘09 also lets you view bookmarks and keywords in a list to let you jump to them easily.

The last alternative is to make a Table of Contents and navigate from the listed heads in the ToC.

Those are your options.

Peter, thanks for the informative response. It's too bad that Pages lacks the ability that MS Word has to display all the pages arrayed across the page. Even MacOS has the capability in Finder (⌘-1).

Regardless, I had forgotten about using a ToC, something I'd often used in Word years ago. For my needs – knowing how many pages are in a chapter – creating the ToC in Pages works perfectly!

Another visualization approach is to open your Pages document directly in Preview, or export your Pages document to PDF. Then in Preview, select View menu: Contact Sheet. If the Preview window is wide enough, it will provide a four-up document view with page numbers. These are not miniscule icons, but remain legible document page images.
