Apple TV 4K Random HDMI Signal Loss

Anyone have a similar issue they have solved? I originally had the issue of flicker that was solved on my LG C7 by changing motion to User set at 0, but an issue I am having is the signal from my ATV to the TV drops out randomly. Usually I can make it through a show, but a movie it will drop at least once. Audio seams to reset here and there too, but it comes right back with the little Dolby Vision logo on the TV flashing. To get the picture back I have to put the ATV to sleep and then turn it back on. If it wasn’t for the free 4K iTunes upgrades I think I would just be done with this thing. I have tried brand new cables too by the way.

I’m having the same issue as well. I have an LG 65” SJ8500 with Dolby Vision connected to the Apple TV 4K. I’ve tried turning the SIMPLINK (HDMI-CEC) settings off and on on both the Apple TV and LG and still have the same issue. Glad to find other people having this issue because I almost returned my TV thinking it was defective.

I recently signed up as a beta tester, and had downloaded the latest beta version of tvOS. I also turned off automatic software updates. I just checked my AppleTV, and it shows that I'm running tvOS 12.1.2 (16K5534a). I assume this is no longer the beta version, but I can't recall how the beta version was displayed, though presumably it said beta somewhere. If I've been automatically updated to 12.1.2, I don't know when that happened. I did, though watch Netflix last night with no issues. I have an LG C9 OLED TV, with my AppleTV connected to a SONY soundbar model HT-ST5000.

The beta for me also had no drops for me as well. It happened once to me the other day since the update, but no problems after that. I have been using my Apple TV 4K to watch everything possible to see if the issue comes up. Download the Public Beta of tvOS 12.2, which came out today to see if that fixes the problem. I can still return mine by February 4 if I need too. Good luck!

Hi, I am facing

the same problem on my Philips TV OLED POS901F. I just purchased a new Apple TV 4k and the problem started shortly

after. Previously I was using my old

Apple TV ver. 2. with no problem at all. My HDMI cable is built in the wall (through a plastic pipe) and I would have

difficulties to replace it. Are there anything else to do to stabilize the video signal between the TV and

the Apple TV?

Thanks!

If any of HDFury’s products do what they say they do, then yes! I just purchased their new Dr HDMI 4K which I will place between my onkyo receiver and my LG OLED. Even though I am using the Belkin cables and all the devices are 4K Dolby Vision compatible, I still get signal drops. This device is supposed to correct any and all HDMI/EDID issues. I will post my results after I have tested it for a while. For $100, it better!

I encountered the dreaded signal drop issue a few weeks back. After reading this thread, I took the advice to sign up as an Apple Beta software tester, and downloaded the latest beta version of TV OS. My problem disappeared instantly, and everything was fine for a few weeks. Then I experienced a brain fart. One night when I turned on my AppleTV 4K, it was prompting me to download the latest public software update, though it did give me the option to scroll down and ignore the update (I wanted to stay with the beta version). However, instead of scrolling down with my thumb on the pad on the upper portion of the remote, I stupidly clicked the bottom of the pad. It instantly began the update process, and I could not cancel, or back out of it. So, I've been running the latest public software version for about the last ten days, or so. And, I have experienced a few instances of signal loss, sometimes audio, but no video. I have generally managed to get myself out of the issue, but it's a real annoyance (and I could have avoided it altogether, by not updating the operating system). My advice for those who have the signal drop issue, and have not updated to the latest OS version, I'd recommend you sign up as a tester, and download the beta version (assuming it's still available).

So Dr HDMI 4K didn’t work. Tech support said since my problem only occurs with 4K resolutions and not 1080p that the HDMI cables are to blame. I replaced both my Belkin 48Gbps cables with another Belkin 48Gbps and a 3ft. Monoprice 48Gbps cable. Random video dropout still occurs. Maybe their AVR Key will work better? Or maybe I just need to spend thousands of more dollars on a new TV and receiver that support HDMI 2.1 and eARC.

I had this problem a while ago but have not had it since. I originally was using a normal HDMI cable and using HDMI port 2, which is the ARC one, on my Sony XBR900E (65"). I then went out and purchased the high speed Belkin HDMI cable that Apple sells and used HDMI port 2. But still encountered the same issue. I then switched my Apple TV to HDMI port 3 (non ARC) and it has worked ever since. So, perhaps try NOT using your HDMI ARC port and using the high speed Belkin HDMI cable. Worked for me, and going on four months now!

Thank you, i'll get the Belkin cable from the Apple Store today, as i had the ATV 4k for just 4 days and it's driving me nuts already.

Never had such a bad experience with an Apple product until now. Btw, is there any way i could get the h265 10 bit content to play on it ? All i get is a really bad choppy playback ( currently on OS 11.4.1 ).

I have updated to the latest stable OS (not beta yet) 12.1.2 and tried both ports that are non Arc with the same results. The TV is an LG UH668V, it's an 4k and HDR TV. In the specs of the HDMI ports of the TV, all 3 are listed as being 2.0a ports. The problem with Netflix is still present ( pressing the menu button to stop the movie and go back gives the black screen for 1-2 seconds). I have to test further, maybe try the betas or wait on the 12.2 final release. The new cable gives a better image quality though, i could tell from the first view of the home screen, the sharpness and detail are better, and i think the contrast too. First time noticing that from an HDMI cable.

I had no luck with the belkin cable, latest stable and beta release , non arc or arc ports, tried everything. I was still getting the black image for 1 2 seconds in netflix . I sold it and got something else, this was too stressfull for such a basic thing that should just work. Maybe with the new releases they will fix it. But this product came out in 2017, so it’s a shame, it’s 2019 and the problems are still there.
