Empty Motion Templates Folder FCPX

Hi,

Following my recent upgrade from iMovie to FCPX I have been having a great time.

Recently, however, I have hit upon a small snag. I wanted to add some third part 'adjustment layers' to start playing around with colour correction but after trying to place the downloads in the right place in my 'Motion Templates' folder I have found it empty.

All of the YouTube tutorials I have seen so far seem to show extra folders like: Titles, Transitions, Effect, Generators, Etc... But my folder is totally empty.

I have all of the above in FCPX when I am using the software

I have placed the third party adjustment layers in the 'Motion Templates' folder but they do not appear in FCPX.

Finally, I removed iMovie from my new machine as I got it up and running 3 weeks ago and I keep all my footage on an external SSD. I don't know if this has any baring.

Any help you can offer in finding my missing folders so I can add my third part adjustment layers would be gratefully received.

KR

You have to add the folders with correct names.

Inside the “Motion Templates” folder, create folders called “Titles”, “Effects”, “Transitions” and “Generators”.

If you dowloaded a title, it has to be put inside a category folder, inside the Titles folder. The category folder can be named anything that makes sense for you. This name will appear in FCP X.

Put the whole downloaded folder of your title inside the desired category folder.

The “Titles”, “Effects”, “Generators” and “Transitions” folders must be “localized”:

to do this, select each of these in the Finder, press command-I and in the Get Info window add .localized to the folder name. This extension is automatically hidden but must be present for FCP X to recognize them.

The category folders, and the folders containing the titles, transitions, etc themselves should NOT be “localized”.

So a typical path would be something like

/Users/yourname/Movies/Motion Templates/Titles/intro/mytitle

if your title is called “mytitle” and its category is “intro”.
