How do I switch it back to IMessage?

My iMessages were not delivering so I held it down and pressed send as text message but now it won’t let me start sending as iMessages again

iPhone 6, iOS 11

Delete the conversation thread and start a new one, assuming iMessage is actually activated in settings.
