No sound from Apple TV 4K

I’m using Apple TV 4K with LG OLED55B7V. Connected directly with a new high speed HDMI cable. Apple TV automatically selects HDR 4K and Dolby Vision also works. However there is no sound. I tried all the HDMI ports on the TV. SW is up to date on both Apple box and LG TV. I tried manually selecting other settings but no sound. The only way I can get sound is to pass through an actual receiver, then I get sound but Apple TV chooses SDR 1080 - pretty sure that’s all the receiver supports.

Actually this turned out to be an LG issue. Sound only returned for a short while then stopped. I contacted LG and its a known issue due to a bug in their last software update. The solution is to download software from the LG support site to a USB key and install to the TV (it's version 04.70.10).

If you set it to be surround in the settings and dont connect it to surround speakers and play surround material this will happen

I have just bought an LG OLED65C7P and had the same issue until I installed the latest software for the TV, which came out on Dec 12, 2017. Kudos to LG for being on top of issues! The latest software version is 4.70.36.

My issue was an LG issue. Check your SW version and their support site. I could get the Apple TV to work by running it through an amp but it wasn’t 4K through the amp. I’m not sure what your other devices are transmitting but the issue may only be with 4K transmiss

Hi Rudegar, not sure what I did but it’s working now. Set it with just tv speakers with all surround options off - worked. Now working with the av receiver too via ACR. Thanks

I have surround speakers that work on every other device in 4K with Dolby Digital. Apple TV is the only device that produces sound solely in stereo mode. Amazon Fire TV and my LG smartTV both function properly. Apple is the singular outlier.

How is this an LG issue? Every other device works fine on my LG system that is fully up to date. Apple is the single outlier device with compatibility problems. If Amazon and Roku can get their products to work with LG then I figure that Apple should be able to figure it out. I just assumed that it would have been by now as this has been an issue for a few weeks.
