Twitch flickering while watching full screen using Safari 11.0.1

I've been watching stuff on Twitch in full screen mode using Safari for quite some time now with no problems, but now (since the update I believe) I am having issues.

Whenever I watch a stream in full screen mode, the brightness/colours will flicker rapidly. Interestingly, when in full screen mode and I leave the mouse visible at the bottom so the pause/play button remain on screen, the flickering doesn't happen.

I have no extensions for my Safari browser. When I watch the same streams in Google Chrome, I do not get the flickering.

I do not get the flickering while using any other streaming services with Safari.

Any ideas? Cheers!

It's a bug related to the Night Shift mode.

If you disable Night Shift it won't flicker.

If you enable Night Shift, videos played from Safari using full screen will flicker.

Yeah I have had this Twitch flicker issue as well on my 2015 MacBook Pro 13", I update regularly (safari 11.0.2, High Sierra 10.13.2) so that's not the problem.

For me the best solution was the official twitch desktop app. Only thing is, if I want to open a different app to watch twitch, might as well just open Chrome, I just don't want to 😁.

For live twitch, the app is just fine.

Hi, I have been having the same issue recently on my late 2015 MacBook Pro 13" running the latest update. I found a work around so you can watch Twitch in fullscreen without the flicker. If you just run Twitch in Theatre Mode instead and hide the chat using the arrow on screen you get essentially fullscreen mode. This didn't flicker for me while standard fullscreen still does. Tried other things including the solution in this thread about Adobe but nothing works. So give this a try.

Theatre Mode with Chat Hidden.

I have a similar flicker issue with Safari when I watch educational videos full screen on Lynda.com. The vids are viewable but randomly there is some flicker/noise, which gets irritating after a while. This happens only in full screen.

Have switched to using Chrome to watch Lynda.com vids full screen, but would prefer Apple to sort out the Safari bugs. Also scrolling web pages with parallax image effects is jittery in Safari, while Chrome renders fine.

That does work, but still doesn't solve the initial problem, as you are well aware 🙂

I'm also having issues in fullscreen mode with Netflix. All of these issues do not exist in other web browsers.

I called Apple, and they walked me through some things, but couldn't figure it out. It got to the point where I did a soft reset of the computer, but that didn't fix it. Sounds like the only next step is to wipe the whole thing and reinstall it all. Seems ridiculous when clearly just Safari needs to be fixed.

I'm having a very similar problem watching Videos on YouTube and Netflix... I'm on the latest version of High Sierra on a 2015 MB Pro 15".

Also, in addition to that flickering there is a weird colorful line on the bottom border of the video. This happens not only in Safari, but also every other browser I've tried. I found out that this problem has something to do with the scaling of the monitor. When I use the standard scaling (which I normally don't do) the problem doesn't appear. But when I use a higher scaling I have said problem.

I've contacted Apple and they also ran me through a couple of things but nothing helped. I even tried to completely reinstall macOS but this didn't help either. Apple said there might be a problem with my graphics card, but I really don't think so, because the diagnosis doesn't say so and I never had any other graphic related issue except for when I'm streaming videos on YouTube or Netflix using any other monitor scaling than the standard one.

Have any of you guys found a solution to that problem by now? I really don't like using the standard scaling because it's to big for my taste, and the higher one always worked until a couple months ago...

Thanks in advance.
