I'm getting the above print preview distortion (those black patches) from word document 2016 after updating to High Sierra 10.13.1, please advise.
p.s. please ignore the rectangle box in red as im blocking out personal info.

Which of these, or combination of these, is true about that artifact appearance in the Word print panel:
You might try booting the Mac into Safe Boot mode, and then verify that these Quick View Print panel artifacts remain in Word 15.40, or are not present. Reboot normally, and check again.
If still present, there is not much to be done until either Microsoft issues a 15.41 update, and/or Apple releases 10.13.2 — and check if the problem remains.

I'm using office 2016, version 15.40 (171108) and I get the picture below after unchecking Show Quick Preview.
Printed document is fine, the shown distortions appears to be a display problem and it only happens to ms word. No such issue when previewing with in PDF.
I do not have Word 2016 installed, but that is not a standard macOS High Sierra print panel either. Thus, the question is what version of Word 2016 are you using on HS 10.13.1, and what happens if you uncheck Show Quick Preview in that panel?
Do the shown distortions reach the printer?
It did not occur prior to the installation of macOS 10.13.1.
I'll try and boot it into safe mode and update you of the result again.
