Remove playlist from general shuffle mode while still being able to shuffle inside playlist

I don't really know how to formulate the title, but this is an annoying issue. Basically, I have a 1000-songs playlist (rap instrumentals) that I don't want to have when I put my library on shuffle to listen to actual music. However, removing the songs inside it from library shuffle mode using the option in the "get information" menu makes it impossible to actually play the playlist itself on shuffle. This is really stupid, as it means that I cannot use that playlist anymore, as I am obviously not going to listen to 1000 instrumentals in the right order or select one specific beat every time I need it. If shuffle mode is activated and i click on the playlist, literally nothing happens. I doubt that iTunes has any solution to this, but I am still curious to know if there is a way to isolate the playlist from the rest of iTunes while keeping all of its features intact.

Thanks in advance

There is.

All that's required is to create a Smart Playlist that excludes the 1000-song instrumental Playlist (and then use the new Playlist to play the rest of your music, without the instrumentals).

Select File/New/Smart Playlist;

User uploaded file

  • Change the field Artist to Playlist. The "contains" box will change to "is"
  • Use the drop-down menu to change "is" to is not
  • use the drop-down menu to change "Music" to the Playlist you want to exclude (the 1000-song)
  • Click OK. The new Playlist is there, with the cursor highlighting the playlist's name
  • If you want to rename the Playlist, simply type over the current name of Playlist
  • If you subsequently want to change the name of the Playlist, double-click the Playlist name and type in the new name.

The following Playlist excludes any song that is in my Recently Added {2 months} Playlist:

  • To play all your songs in shuffle, but without the instrumentals that are in your 1000-song Playlist, play the new Playlist.
  • You can now change all your instrumentals back to play when shuffling (turn off the Skip when shuffling). Since they are not in the new Playlist, you can shuffle the new one without them playing. But when you do want to play them, simply play the 1000-song playlist.
