Question: Since updating to macOS High Sierra 10.13.1 the computer is much slower than before.

Since updating to macOS High Sierra 10.13.1 the computer is much slower than before the update. I do not run many programs at the same time, usually only calendar, mail and Safari, I have all the updates current. I have about 75% free space on disk

Please download and run EtreCheck, created by one of own helpers here in ASC. It is a diagnostic tool that's very useful to us in finding problems. Also it will give us further specs on your Mac. After it runs post the log file here. It will contain no personal information.

I think your main issue is lack of RAM. Although Apple states 2 GB of RAM as the minimum for High Sierra, 6 to 8GB is more realistic. Upgrade RAM:

You can check the modules you need with the advisory tool in Crucial, or OWC.Both reliable vendors.

Your Mac would also benefit from an SSD, it would greatly speed up your system.
