New MacBook pro, migrated data. Deleted iOS iPhone back ups, but they seem to have just been added to System Storage! Why?

Purchased a new MacBook pro, and migrated my apps and docs via a backed up time capsule. I wanted to clear a few things, so I deleted/removed using storage manager iOS iPhone back ups, but they seem to have just been added to System Storage! Why? How do I solve this problem, my System Storage is now 100GB, it started at 50GB (which also seems high....)?

Thank you for your reply. But unfortunately there was nothing there. I have also been deleting files on my old MacBook Pro, and it appears that all that is happening is that the files/data/folders are somehow being pushed into the System Storage. I'm gaining no space.

Thank you. I've actually been on the phone with apple, and they think it is a software glitch, that has been transported from my old Mac to this one. So I've ended up having to do a reset erase of the hard drive and slowly reinstall apps and docs. Which seems, so far, to have worked. Although manage storage doesn't always display it in the correct way.....
