Slow macbook after updating to 10.13.2

The updating process went well. However, after a few days, the finder start to crash while I work on my MacBook for a few hours. To worsened the condition, today I experienced a slow browser, and slow response when changing app or window. Does anyone experienced the same thing? Please advise and thank you.

MacBook Pro (Retina, 13-inch, Mid 2014)

I have exactly the same problem and have installed High Sierra three times since its launch with exactly the same result - pathetic slowed down performance to the point of uselessness! The solution is to use Time Machine and restore back to Sierra where everything is instantly returned to normal! I have tried it with CleanmyMac 3 installed and uninstalled and it makes absolutely NO difference - High Sierra IS the problem!

Until Apple acknowledges this and comes up with the correct fix - stick to Sierra!!!

While the slowdown happened on several computers upgraded to 10.13.2 the cause on all three is somehow SMC getting out of sync. So the procedure to recover is to 😮to

1. Boot in reduced MHz

2. Put machine to sleep at reduced MHz

3. Wake up from sleep at reduced MHz

4. Shutdown

5. Left Shift-Ctrl-Alt Power Button for 10+ seconds

6. Reboot

CPU will throttle back up to GHz and stays that way.

Updating to 10.13.2 was no problem for my computer's performance (just certain capabilities when moving files within Finder)... but 10.13.3 devastated my 2015 13" Retina Macbook Pro.

I tried the FileVault status check, but mine was displayed as already off... I do not know if it is supposed to be on or not.

I have not experienced many problems with scrolling, but EVERYTHING else is 9-10x slower than before the update.

I will be typing, and the latency is 3-12 seconds (and recurs upon moving the typing location or backspacing, with 10-30 seconds problem-free without idleness). The loading cursor appears 6x more often than usual. Logging in went from 2 seconds to 2 minutes (though no problems booting/rebooting the computer). Opening an application by Apple takes 20 seconds longer, and opening other applications a minute & twenty seconds. Anything within System Preferences takes 8-11x longer than usual.

When I installed the update, it took 1.1 hours to boot up, and 20 minutes before it would even give an installation time estimate. I will admit that I grew quite impatient waiting on what appeared to be stalled progress, and did shut it down a few times, entering the [⌘ + s] screen in an attempt to add a new user as suggested in an earlier reply on this thread.

All this was after years of no problems.

I knew that Apple's software updates slow down older phones, but this on a Mac is ridiculous...

Yup, same problem here. I have Mac book pro laptop which ran very, very slow, as you described. Had to get help to install high sierra, as it crashed loading, then, after running slowly, it crashed on startup, so started in recovery mode - didn't work, started in safe mode - didn’t work.

I tried starting in verbose mode, crashed, stating that too many corpses were being created. Only way to solve it was to erase hard drive and reinstall high sierra.

It is still running slowly. I was told by an Apple technician, that High Sierra takes up a huge amount of memory. I guess Apple want us to buy new machines, same as tactics with IPhones.

Several of my Apple friends are now reverting to Windows. Surely Apple must realise that they are losing loyal customers with this strategy.

I have a new macbook pro 2017 with touch bar which has become very very slow after the update to hivh Sierra. earlier as soon as i used to open the lid off the laptop, the tough bar used to activate and ask for fingerprint, but now it comes after a significant lag. The word or any msoffice file opens after a lag. The same was experienced while opening pdf files . I spent a big amount for this pc, but really disappointed. How can I go back to Sierra?

I SOLVED IT!!!!! I feel so happy about this!!! Before performing this next part, back up your system, just in case.

What you do: On any permanent ID, open System Preferences and enter Users & Groups.

Unlock it by selecting the lock in the corner. Remove all groups from unused IDs.

Log off and refresh your computer. Before it comes back up, clear the P-RAM (hold cmd+opt+p+r and release after the noise); this last step may not be necessary, but it is what I did after removing the things under 'groups.'

If this does not do the trick, remove all unnecessary users as well.

NOTE: I also removed parental controls from every ID, and unchecked the box permitting other computers to control the parental controls remotely, before I performed this function. That, and removing unwanted apps. Never hurts to do that, but didn't help the case until I removed the groups.

That's all I've got, but I've tried everything else except resetting and bringing back everything minus the Libraries, which is what the Genius Bar had told me to do (clearly there was a better alternative).

If this fails, do what the Genii say. Sorry for the lengthiness and informalities. I am just so excited to share my solution and couldn't take the time to shorten it.
