Sharing HomeKit problem - Apple ID is not registered with iCloud problem

On last Thursday we shared a HomeKit (host is my wife's iPad) to my wife's sister. From that moment, I lost connection with iPad - Home App on my iPhone was showing an error connecting to it. So, I removed my my account from guests, then her sister's. Now, my wife can't invite anyone - Home App is always telling that this Apple ID is not registered with iCloud.

I tried:

- to restart all devices

- log-out and log-in to iCloud on all devices

- reinstall Home App on all devices

- disable and enable contacts sync

- to send invitation from “guest” HomeKit to the “host” HomeKit - ironically same problem - Apple ID is not registered with iCloud

Nothing works. Now, only my wife can use HomeKit devices. What is going on or what am I doing wrong ?

I am having the same sort of issues. From what I read the homekit bug was resolved in 11.2 however I have updated all the family devices and the invite system is very hit and miss. I was able to invite my son but it fails on his device when accepting the invite and stays as pending on mine. More importantly I can't invite the wife getting the could not invite because the apple id is not register in iCloud error. Wish apple would sort this out ASAP.

I'm having the same issue... and so are many others. It seems this is related to the security bug found with HomeKit last week. Although there hasn't been a specific response from Apple regarding this specific issue... many have surmised that this is related. Apple has said that remote access for guests using HomeKit is disabled until the fix is released sometime this week. Hopefully that will restore the "unable to find iCloud ID" bug that many of us are also facing...

Stay tuned... it's annoying for sure. My wife cannot access any of our home devices right now.

For me it's working again.

This morning I talked to Apple Support for more than 40 minutes and they told me to try step 2 to 7 when I had all devices available.

1. I installed this new updated on all my iPhones, iPads and Apple TV's.

2. I logged out each Apple ID on all iOS devices and restarted the device

3. I logged out from iCloud on the Apple TV's and restarted the device

4. I logged in on iCloud on Apple TV

5. I logged in with my Apple Id my Master iPhone (the device I used to setup Homekit)

6. I logged in with the Apple Id of my wife on her phone

7. I tried to invite her on my Homekit - same error 😟

But than I realised that I also use Philips Hue in my Homekit configuration.

So I went in my Philips Hue app - Settings - Homekit & Siri - Advanced - Homes (maybe the name is different but it's the first one of the 2 options) - select "my house" and clicked on Share Home and I invited my wife here.

And BINGO .... the invite is send to my wife her phone and when she clicks on it Homekit opens (not Philips Hue) and after she approves, everything is working on her phone.

I did the same for my daughter and within 15 seconds everything was working.

Hope this helps!

After upgrading to IOS 11.2.1 on my wife's iPad and my iPhone, now everything is working fine. I've been able to send invitation and accept it. So upgrading to the latest IOS solved my problem, and hopefully will solve Yours. Also I think that maybe Apple needed some time after releasing the update to unlock that option.

Correct... even though that bug doesn't specifically mention the issue with not being able to re-invite someone, there are numerous reports of people not being able to do so. Self included... Right now the worst thing you can do is delete someone and re-invite (even though there are many guides out there from a while back suggesting to do just that). For right now, until Apple releases some kind of fix, there is no way around it that I can find.

Hopefully they fix it sooner rather than later...

This is a great idea! I actually attempted this the other day... sadly the results are still pretty much the same. You can send the invite and it will show up as pending when you go to the home app. However, the invite never reaches the other participant and they are unable to accept. This only seems to apply to users who cannot have a valid iCloud/Apple ID determined.

This Feature was Disabled by Apple, they cannot disclose why they disabled it for security reasons, only that its no longer a shared Application only the Main user can access Home Kit Devices via the HOME App.

They would not give me a timeline on the next update from Apple, I would suggest you just get the Native APP for each device and put on your family iphone so they can control devices.

I have had this same issue, and even attempted to delete the entire "home" and restart. I was able to invite both parties back, and it says "invitation pending" but there is no invitation on their devices. I have tried canceling the invite and resending, and I get an error "this email address is not associated with an iCloud.com email" even though both emails are @icloud.com ones.

What gives?? I'm on iOS 11.2... and my device works flawlessly. This is so frustrating!! Would appreciate any updates.

I have the same issue trying to add my wife. Initially I was able to add her, but she could not see all the devices so I tried removing her and re-inviting and the "Apple ID is not registered with iCloud" error started. I believe this was before I upgraded to iOS 11.2. However still occurs after upgrading.

She also can not login via desktop to https://appleid.apple.com. It will initially login, but immediately logs her out stating session has timed out for your security. Not sure if that has anything to do with the issue. She has iPhone 7 with iOS 11.2 and iPad 2 (don't think it has been updated to 11.2) associated with her iCloud account.

I have iPhone 6 with iOS 11.2, apple Tv 4k with iOS 11.2.

For me everything is working, although I had to go through a lot of hoops to get Apple TV to connect to Home and get automation working. I am really enjoying my HomeKit devices and features in Home app, but really hope Apple can get these bugs worked out. It shouldn't be this hard and error prone. I am concerned I may regret my investment in an array of HomeKit devices.

Well the good news is I have mine working again as well… The bad news is you still cannot invite from the Home app inside of iOS.

If you have a third-party apps such as the Phillips hue app, Elgato eve, etc.… You can invite someone from there and the invitation will go through.

This was not working prior to the update but I can confirm that it does work post update.
