Sharing HomeKit problem - Apple ID is not registered with iCloud problem

On last Thursday we shared a HomeKit (host is my wife's iPad) to my wife's sister. From that moment, I lost connection with iPad - Home App on my iPhone was showing an error connecting to it. So, I removed my my account from guests, then her sister's. Now, my wife can't invite anyone - Home App is always telling that this Apple ID is not registered with iCloud.

I tried:

- to restart all devices

- log-out and log-in to iCloud on all devices

- reinstall Home App on all devices

- disable and enable contacts sync

- to send invitation from “guest” HomeKit to the “host” HomeKit - ironically same problem - Apple ID is not registered with iCloud

Nothing works. Now, only my wife can use HomeKit devices. What is going on or what am I doing wrong ?

Upgraded all iOS devices to 11.2.1 and also my Apple TV 4. Everything works fine again for me and also my invitees. Home crises over christmas prevented. :-)

For me it's working again.

This morning I talked to Apple Support for more than 40 minutes and they told me to try step 2 to 7 when I had all devices available.

1. I installed this new updated on all my iPhones, iPads and Apple TV's.

2. I logged out each Apple ID on all iOS devices and restarted the device

3. I logged out from iCloud on the Apple TV's and restarted the device

4. I logged in on iCloud on Apple TV

5. I logged in with my Apple Id my Master iPhone (the device I used to setup Homekit)

6. I logged in with the Apple Id of my wife on her phone

7. I tried to invite her on my Homekit - same error 😟

But than I realised that I also use Philips Hue in my Homekit configuration.

So I went in my Philips Hue app - Settings - Homekit & Siri - Advanced - Homes (maybe the name is different but it's the first one of the 2 options) - select "my house" and clicked on Share Home and I invited my wife here.

And BINGO .... the invite is send to my wife her phone and when she clicks on it Homekit opens (not Philips Hue) and after she approves, everything is working on her phone.

I did the same for my daughter and within 15 seconds everything was working.

Hope this helps!

I figured out the problem. If you are on the latest build (At least 11.2.1), the person you're trying to invite must have iCloud Keychain turned on. Settings->Your Name (above Airplane Mode)->iCloud->Keychain

Turn that on. Saw someone post a recommendation for alternative software that can issue invites, and in the app description it mentioned something about the iCloud keychain. I checked my GF's phone and yep, it was off. Turned it on, and the invite went through finally.

So got all my devices updated but it didn't help still couldn't invite wife or son. What I did is had the wife invite me to a her blank home. Accepted the invite and then removed myself and had her remove me. Then I could invite her to my home that has all the devices. Wohoo finally fixed I thought but still couldn't invite the son. Had him do the same then I could invite him. Now we are one happy family again. Thanks apple for causing some much frustration and a considerable waste of time.

I have the same issue and long calls with Apple care didn’t help either. Waited for the latest iOS release, but that didn’t help as well. Found a work around that did the trick for me-

On the guests iPhone (whom you want to share access to your home) create a dummy home and ask him/ her to share access to that dummy home with you. Once you accept the request, try inviting him/ her again from your home app. The dummy home invite seems to refresh some iCloud Registration issue and you wouldn’t receive the ‘not registeted’ error.

Worked for me.

IF YOU USE Phillips HUE, then that is likely the issue.

If you use Philips Hue, then send the invite from within the Hue app.

Go to Philips Hue app

- Settings

- Homekit & Siri

- Advanced

- Homes (maybe the name is different but it's the first one of the 2 options)

- select "my house" and click on Share Home and invite from here.

The invite is sent to whoever you wish. When they click on it Homekit opens (not Philips Hue) and after they approve, everything is will work on their phone.

Hope this helps!

Me too! And I was choosing them from members of my family list. Complete with the apple id they have had for many years.

until I typed in my son’s name in the to: field and it came up with two email accounts, with one in orange.

The orange one was the @icloud wheras the one we used to use was the @me.com.

and once I selected/updated contacts to @icloud.com it all worked perfectly.

I had the same issue but somehow I got it fixed.

My iPhone is the main HomeKit controller and my wife's iPhone is the guest.

1) Upgrade all devices to iOS11.2.1 (but this step alone won't work immediately)

2) Remove all guests from the main controller (in my case, its mine)

3) If you have any existing invitation to a guest, cancel it

4) In the other device that was once the guest (in my case, its my wife's phone), leave the "home". You can do this by going to the bottom of the home's setting page and tap on "Remove Home"

5) Send the invite again.

Hope this helps.

I fix my problem by deleting all the devices in Home on my iPhone X and then flipping to my wife’s iPhone X as the starting point. From her phone I then shared to me and was able to accept invitation. I then added devices to her phone and they showed up on mine. No idea why it didn’t work the other way around. I’ve been on and off the phone with Apple engineering for a week with no resolution. This was the only workaround I was able to find.
