Sharing HomeKit problem - Apple ID is not registered with iCloud problem

On last Thursday we shared a HomeKit (host is my wife's iPad) to my wife's sister. From that moment, I lost connection with iPad - Home App on my iPhone was showing an error connecting to it. So, I removed my my account from guests, then her sister's. Now, my wife can't invite anyone - Home App is always telling that this Apple ID is not registered with iCloud.

I tried:

- to restart all devices

- log-out and log-in to iCloud on all devices

- reinstall Home App on all devices

- disable and enable contacts sync

- to send invitation from “guest” HomeKit to the “host” HomeKit - ironically same problem - Apple ID is not registered with iCloud

Nothing works. Now, only my wife can use HomeKit devices. What is going on or what am I doing wrong ?

I am having the same sort of issues. From what I read the homekit bug was resolved in 11.2 however I have updated all the family devices and the invite system is very hit and miss. I was able to invite my son but it fails on his device when accepting the invite and stays as pending on mine. More importantly I can't invite the wife getting the could not invite because the apple id is not register in iCloud error. Wish apple would sort this out ASAP.

I have been working on this since 2 weeks.... since the time I got my Ecobee3 thermostat... thanks for some of the comments here but I have not got it working :-)

Trick is, as stated in one of the post, to ensure all ur devices are on 11.2.1 (or hopefully above).

This is what I did:

- upgraded my wife mobile and her iPad to 11.2.1

- both my phones were 11.2.1

- earlier I had added the ecobee3 on my phone and I was adding her using the home app but that use to give the error “the xxxxxx@gmail.com is not registered to iCloud” and when I tried to create a home at her iPad and add myself it use to say invitation pending but I will not receive anything. Once we had all 4. Devices on 11.2.1, I removed the home from my iPhone (as the iPad was on her Apple ID) and then converted her iPad to iHub and then added the ecobee3 thermostats to her device

- then I invited myself from her iPad and got the invitation instantaneously

Now I have all 4 devices with home kit having the ability to control the thermostats

Hope this works for you guys as well..

PS: I also turned keychain ON on all devices, not sure if that helped as well but I read in some blogs that for HomeKit you need to have this turned ON.

Good Luck

I had the same issue but somehow I got it fixed.

My iPhone is the main HomeKit controller and my wife's iPhone is the guest.

1) Upgrade all devices to iOS11.2.1 (but this step alone won't work immediately)

2) Remove all guests from the main controller (in my case, its mine)

3) If you have any existing invitation to a guest, cancel it

4) In the other device that was once the guest (in my case, its my wife's phone), leave the "home". You can do this by going to the bottom of the home's setting page and tap on "Remove Home"

5) Send the invite again.

Hope this helps.

I figured out the problem. If you are on the latest build (At least 11.2.1), the person you're trying to invite must have iCloud Keychain turned on. Settings->Your Name (above Airplane Mode)->iCloud->Keychain

Turn that on. Saw someone post a recommendation for alternative software that can issue invites, and in the app description it mentioned something about the iCloud keychain. I checked my GF's phone and yep, it was off. Turned it on, and the invite went through finally.

Just discovered this problem today and didn’t read anything until after trying to remove are reinvite my daughter. I am using iOS 11.2.5 and my daughter DOES have iCloud Keychain turned on, but am still getting the same message. It would appear that although changing that setting seemed to work for you, it is not “the problem.” was there any other changes or tweaks you made while troubleshooting this?

I was frustrated by the same issue. I was able to add 3 members to Homekit but could not add the 4th. Advice found in Google, YouTube, and on this site was of no help. I had been sending the invite unsuccessfully from my iPhone. I then try sending it from my IPad, and it worked flawlessly. I’m not sure why, both devices had the latest update. I hope this helps.

I fix my problem by deleting all the devices in Home on my iPhone X and then flipping to my wife’s iPhone X as the starting point. From her phone I then shared to me and was able to accept invitation. I then added devices to her phone and they showed up on mine. No idea why it didn’t work the other way around. I’ve been on and off the phone with Apple engineering for a week with no resolution. This was the only workaround I was able to find.
