How do i get around the system requiring me to authenticate when all i want to do is drag a file to my HD from the desktop.
i was able to do it before, i simply forgot what was needed to do it...I know there's a way to go about circumventing this issue, its just a matter of some one coming up with the correct sequence to get around it..
It might help if you told us what you're actually trying to accomplish...
Where are you trying to move/copy these files to, exactly?
There may be a way to get the system to not prompt you to authenticate when attempting to write to protected folders, but doing so is an incredibly bad idea. It would make your system much much less secure.
this isnt a question of security, all it is is a matter of taking screenshots of things i see online and dragging those screenshots to my hard drive.......there isnt anything about creating a screenshot of something you've witnessed or seen online and retaining it as a screenshot in a folder in your hard drive.......all i'm trying to do is get beyond where the system is telling me to authenticate the move...thats all!!!!
WHERE on your "hard drive" are you trying to put it? Certain areas are protected for a reason. They contain critical system files like the operating system and other files that are necessary for the operation of your machine. Allowing blanket write access without authentication, the way Windows has historically operated, is an invitation to disaster.
You can't just dump things in the root of the drive if that's what you're trying to do. Or at least you shouldn't. It's a bad idea. Create a folder in your home directory and keep them there.
Into my Hard Drive then into a SPECIFIC FOLDER which i call snapshots, why on earth would i put screenshots into anything related to the operating system, i've been using computers 25 yrs and i know better, im just a little fuzzy on what has to be done in order to bypass the authentication issue, and i know for a fact it can bebypassed, none of the responses you have come back with address the issue of circumventing the authentication issue, you are continually questioning me putting files into my hard drive that YOU THINK i just deceide to flop into any folder haphazardly without care, nothing could be further from the truth.....either try to help me with this process or please dont answer at all because you're not helping matters, you're hindering them...
You don't. It's doing that to try and protect you from yourself. You're apparently trying to copy something to a protected directory.

Its in my original question.....i take a screenshot of something, ....the screenshot appears on my desktop...I try to drag the screenshot to my Hard Drive.....and it prompts me to authenticate......
