my photo stream

Hi i am asking for some help, does anyone know why when i turn on iCloud photo library i loose my photo stream on my other devises.

Basically photo stream shows on my phones in the photo albums and likewise with in photos on my mac

but as soon as i click iCloud photo library it turns off and the album goes,

would appreciate any advice or knowledge
