Macbook trackpad won't physically click

Hi,

One day I've opened my Macbook Pro and I couldn't physically click on the trackpad. The tapping does work, however, no physical click is possible (the trackpad feels hard, like it is resisting the clicking).

What I've tried so far:

Restarting did not make a difference.
Shutting down the laptop did not work.
SMC reset (with Shift, Option and Control buttons with the power button and the laptop connected to a charger) did not work.
Command and Option with P and R buttons also did not work.

Could anyone suggest what to do next and did anyone had this kind of situation?

check for swollen battery or trackpad mis-aligned in the chassis.

Swollen battery may show itself as an opening or bulging in the front seam where top-case and bottom cover meet. If that seam appears to have opened, even a little, you should see service right away.

Doing an SMC reset is about the limit of software interventions. If that does not fix it, you will need to have a service provider look at it.

If you have an Apple-Owned Store available, your appointment for an evaluation (and simple fixes that do not require parts) is free, in warranty or out.

Apple Authorized Service Providers set their own policies about evaluations, and some choose to charge a "nuisance fee" to discourage you from using up their resources without compensation. If you pay for a repair, be sure to ask for a refund of the evaluation fee.
