pls help - i'm unable to transfer data from 6s to 8

I'm unable to transfer data from iphone 6s to 8 after backup. iTunes program is not working in my laptop suddenly, meaning icon is at desktop but when I double click the icon, there is no progress. Pls help and thanks for your advice in advance.
