My Macbook Pro is getting hot when I'm not using it, why?

This has been happening for the past week or so. My 2014 Macbook Pro will, for no reason at all, get extremely hot even when I haven't used it for the day. It feels like I've been using it for hours on end, when there will be days that I didn't even touch it, and yet it still is extremely warm. In fact, the only time it cools down is when I'm using it, but it still feels somewhat warm.

I have no idea why it does this. Does anyone know what's going on or how I can fix it?

You could look into the Activity Monitor utility to see what may be active

and using your system resources; perhaps you've some application that

won't shut off. Or something else sharing internet or indexing drives, etc.

Also you could use Etrecheck utility to see a profile of your Mac and post

it in your thread then others here could look into the report for ideas...

{When you have an active Mac that should be sleeping, there could be

any number of things going on. You may have to power it off, and then

restart it. Maybe perform the checklist of SMC reset; w/o the final reset.}

About that SMC (System Management Controller.) A reset of power management

unit; that reset may or may not resolve the problem. Read & follow steps before

actually resetting the SMC. The other steps done first, may resolve the issue.

In any event...
Good luck & happy trails! 🙂

Hey!

So I did check and the only thing that is taking up any energy/resources is Google Chrome, which is the only thing I use basically. Everything else is basically at 0 or 0.1 . It's very strange, because it tends to stay cool if I let it naturally sleep or use it, but it will get hot if I stop what I'm doing and close my laptop, or even let it sleep before closing my laptop. I won't even touch it for a day, and open it up to see Chrome at 61.5 on my activity monitor (I didn't use it/touch it the entire day. It was closed the entire time).
