iOS 11.2.1 problems

Hello, I backed up my phone and then installed iOS 11.2.1 and since the installation, the phone keeps on shutting down. I have erased the phone and reinstalled but problem still persists.

Please advise.

That seems to be the catch all answer. Tell me, do you own an 8 or an X? My three year old battery worked perfectly and when I say perfectly I mean play music, YouTube, texting and searching the web ALL day long. I downloaded 11.2.1 and minutes later I actually watched my battery go from 90% to 70% within minutes. No, I don’t need a new battery. I need Apple to put out a download that doesn’t slow down or drain iPhones with the slower processors ie 7 and below.

I understand. I've not had any issues regarding any iPads or the Macs I've owned after updating or restoring to the degree I have with my phones. They always need a bit of recoup and adjustment time, but no biggie.

I just prepare for it now and take extra steps that I'm usually more lax about, such as leaving an array of apps and browsers open. But, I'm not obsessive about it. Life keeps me busy worrying about other things, like most of us.

Glad you brought up Apple music. Had a similar issue. I called, like I typically do, after I tried a few things on my own. I uninstalled & reinstalled the app. Come to find out, I ran out of iCloud storage so I upgraded straight away, as I do really like & prefer icloud for backing up and syncing. Then, I found out iCloud music library decided to turn itself off....good Lord...lol.

Needless to say, after ugrading my storage, force restarting my device, then re-enabling iCloud music library, my app is running smooth once again.

Ref the battery though? Omg....my music apps take a toll on my battery. Pandora has it beat though, but the worst ones that drain my battery so very quickly are my social media apps. Just Facebook alone depletes it. Then, I thought about it. Facebook updates very often, as do other social media apps....usually not a problem. However, Facebook for example now integrates tons of memes with motion now (they're no longer static) and worse, videos t/out the timeline that play regardless of clicking on them. It's no wonder it kills my battery percentage! All of that motion is ridiculous yet what do I still do? I check Facebook daily....I use it very little when I open it, but all of that movement within the app, along with graphics and much much more, is like 6-7 apps in one using my battery and my phone's processor :/

I plug in now though. There are so many other apps that do the same thing, including my weather app...they have several similarities, such as integrated media in various formats, graphics, etc. I love updates but the app features now are really giving my phone a run for it's money. But, I'll deal. I like my apps and I come attached with a charger at the hip so to speak....I'm prepared. Bring it on, app developers! 😂😁

A little update: after I clean install 11.2.5 without any backups, after several days the reboot issue returns. No panic-full message, but the only info I could get from stacks analytics is:

reason: "sosd timed out connecting to imagent"

I don’t know what’s causing this. If anyone has ever encountered and solved this problem, I’ll be very helpful if you could share it.

Hi hyuei,

Last I recall, Imagent is used for FaceTime and similar apps to receive incoming/outgoing images typically. I'd look a bit more into this however and adjust based on your needs.

For timeouts overall, check your internet and WiFi connections on your phone and/or computer if connecting to iTunes when this occurs, for example.

Troubleshooting here may just resolve it.

Best of luck :)

I see, thanks for your info. I did see a strange behavior though: whenever my phone rebooted, there will be a (!) badge on my Messages app. I already deleted all my message, but could it be that I am having some message stucked?

Also, I am stuck at imessage and facetime activation right now for several weeks, could it be connected anyhow? (But I still got rebooted when the imessage is active, though)

Also: heavy internet usage sometimes did make the 5S reboot. Today I was flipboarding and after flipping for about 20 min, it got stuck and boom, reboot.

I think you just figured it out.

I researched your error a bit after posting, and iMessage and Messages utilize imagent so high probability.

Can you call into Apple support prior to carrier, to have them check on your iMessage activation status with them?

You shouldn't be waiting for weeks. For messaging, could be Apple or carrier or both, but at least you'd be able to isolate by calling Apple first.

I'll find the link from Apple about activation issues that you're experiencing to see if it helps also.

Thank you so much for your kind help. I was trying to tweak the imessage activation these past few minutes and boy, I already got like 5 reboots in these past few minutes. Actually this reboot problem comes when my imessage was activated, so I tried to disable it and the reboots still occurs. I decided to turn it back on-but it never did activated. Before, my phone number shows at the send&receive, greyed out with spinning circle. Now, after clean restore, my number didn’t even shows up in the send&receive.

Anyway, really thanks for the help and I’ll try to use your links first.

Just wanted to update for those who’s keeping up with my problem: I have disabled imessage and all the (!) are gone, but unfortunately it still reboots sometimes. This morning, it even goes to shutdown with red and green vertical lines showing before. And I got this analytics showing panic-base with “unable to halt cpu” error. I’m guessing this is a hardware issue then.

Well, I’ll just have to use the low power mode then until iphone SE 2 comes then^^;
