Hi, my Macbook pro was stolen a few months ago. I requested an 'erase when online'. I just found the serial number, is it possible to use it to locate it?

Assuming you reported the loss to the police, you can now add that info as further help. You cannot use the serial number other than to prove a found item is the one lost. Apple do not provide a location service for machines or individuals.

I replied within 10 minutes of its appearance. I guess you posted a second (or third 😀) time.

But seriously, we are all volunteers here; a reply is never guaranteed because it depends on who is looking in at the time and what interests they have in the subject matter. I am surprised yours took so long, though; it was pretty basic. Thank you for the star.

You should of put a code lock on that MacBook Pro because it will add a password code to the firmware and making it a brick for the person who stole it meaning it would be a useless laptop even I if they take the hardrive out still the drive will not be access through another Mac computer you should of left it notify that way it will be still traceable
