My apple watch force touch is not working

I have started noticing that since I have upgraded my apple watch series 2 to watch OS 4.2 but battery is draining 60-70% faster than earlier (no change in usage) and force touch has stopped working. Everything else seems to be fine.

I have reset the watch, and even has not changed this behaviour.

Anyone know of a force touch toggle that I am missing?

Is this a common problem?

Any suggestions appreciated!

Thanks!

Hi

Touchscreen

There is no user setting for enabling / disabling your watch's ability to recognise a firm press. If your Apple Watch does not respond to touchscreen inputs as expected, then the following steps may help:

Remove any screen protector, case or bumper that you may have fitted to your Apple Watch.

If you have not yet done so, update your iPhone and Apple Watch to the latest compatible software versions, starting with your iPhone:

Clean and dry your Apple Watch, being sure to follow Apple's cleaning instructions:

Restart (normally) your Apple Watch and iPhone, turning both devices off together, then restarting your iPhone first:

If the issue persists, next unpair and re-pair your Apple Watch:

If the issue persists, then I suggest that you contact Apple Support (remote diagnostics and/or mail-in service may be available, if required), make a Genius Bar reservation or visit an Apple Authorised Service Provider for assistance:

If your Apple Watch is experiencing significantly shorter battery life than Apple's examples suggest that you should expect, then it may help to follow these steps, which have previously resolved battery life issues for other users, including after software updates and switches to a new iPhone, when usage has not otherwise changed (check after each):

Restart both your iPhone and your Apple Watch, turning both off together and then restarting your iPhone first:

If you have ever (not necessarily recently) previously used the Workout app and/or any third-party fitness or sleep tracking apps to record workouts on your watch, check on your Apple Watch to see whether there is a paused activity within any of them. If there is, end that activity from within the app on your watch (not your iPhone).

  • If in doubt, remove any such third-party apps from your Apple Watch.

Unpair and re-pair your Apple Watch:

Some users have previously experienced battery life issues in connection with using corporate profiles and/or Exchange Calendars. If you are using an Exchange Calendar, one or more of these steps may help:

  • Archive your Exchange Calendar for all items before today.
  • Remove / delete all old inbox messages relating to calendar invites (accept and decline notifications).
  • Create a rule in your Outlook Mail account that moves all future accept and decline replies, immediately upon receipt, into a separate mail folder that does not sync with your iPhone and Apple Watch.
  • Check your Exchange Calendar for errors.

Finally, it may help to:

Having tried the previous steps, if your remain concerned that battery life is shorter than it should be, then I suggest contacting Apple Support (remote diagnostics and/or mail-in service may be available, if required), making a Genius Bar reservation or visiting an Apple Authorised Service Provider for assistance:

Mine did the same for 2 days. No force touch and battery didn’t last the day.

Went to Apple store and it tested fine.

Watch fixed itself, force touch works and battery went back to normal for 2 days then issues returned for 2 days.

Now it’s working again 😂

Not sure what’s going on.

But the force touch not working is definitely linked to the battery drain.

I am having the same problem. Started a few weeks back. Went about a week straight with no force touch and battery dieing in less than 12 hours when I usually could get 18 hours with only using about 30% of the battery.

I tried the trouble shooting on the thread, 1. Update phone a and watch software, 2. Power down both phone and watch, the phone back on followed by watch back on, 3. Then unpair watch and repair. Same problem.

Then a few days ago force touch started working again and battery life back. Now it comes and goes during the day. 1 hour is works one hour it does not. Batter drain follows force touch distinction.

On a chat with Apple and they ran their diagnostics and can not find anything wrong. I am being told to send the watch back for replacement.
